About Our Club
We are a friendly walking club based in St Helens, welcoming walkers of all ages and abilities. Our walking club has been established since 1928, and is affliated to the Ramblers Association.
The main activity is fortnightly Sunday coach rambles that leave from Central Street in St Helens and has free parking nearby.
There are a wide range of walks on each of our Sunday coach outings – please see below walking grades page for guidelines – they vary from gentle C walks to strenuous A walks. At minimum you need to be able to walk 6 to 7 miles, and cope with sometimes high and awkward stiles and rough ground underfoot – if this sounds too big a first step please try out the Friday evening walks that are organised in summer.
The cost of a coach based Sunday outing is typically £13 to £15. (2016 prices.)
You are very welcome to try a couple of Sunday coach walks on guest fee basis, which is £1 in addition to the cost of the coach seat.
We plan a full year programme of places we wish to visit - details in the club diary that we give out when people join.
Full details of up & coming walks and how to book on all walks are included in our club magazine (Shamble) which is issued every two months. When contacting the organiser please ring between 6pm and 8pm, Monday through Friday.
The current Shamble will be sent when propective members make an enquiry.
The Shamble also covers some of the other club activities such as car share rambles, YHA based weekends (twice a year); Friday evening summer social walks, and winter social meetings at Raglan Court in Lyon Close in St. Helens
